ATTENTION: DO NOT USE SCA CHARGED COOLANT FILTERS ON YOUR SYSTEM. SEE QUESTION #1 BELOW.
(Cut away of a clogged oil cooler)
One HUGE benefit of the installation of the 6.0L coolant filter is the protection of the Oil Cooler and consequently, the EGR cooler. The coolant passes through the oil cooler before it heads towards the EGR cooler. The oil cooler becomes clogged with debris in the cooling system. The EGR cooler passes coolant over an exhaust flow to cool exhaust before it re-enters the intake. Without sufficient coolant passing through the EG cooler, the EGR cooler fails. When the oil cooler plugs, you must replace them. The egr coolers list for $500.00 and the oil coolers list for about $250.00 and labor estimates are 8 hours to replace them. Here is a picture showing the location of the cooler. Keep in mind, the turbo, oil cooler, and all related intake plumbing is already removed.
Coolant filters are not a new idea to the diesel engine world. They come in most OEM applications for medium duty and OTR tractor trailer rigs. The idea was somehow tossed aside for light duty applications, most likely due to cost. For our light duty trucks it is a very important issue that needed to be addressed. Many diesel engines - like the Powerstroke - are cast with sand in the process. This sand is NOT completely removed from the system. In fact, much of this sand leaches out of the casting over time. The sand wears away at water pump seals, hoses and radiators. Removal of this sand can greatly increase your water pump life. Diesel engine coolant also contains additives that are designed to protect the cyclinders from cavitation erosion. As these chemicals are used, they change from a liguid to an organic / solid form. As the solids erode from the cylinder linings, they become an inert particle left behind floating around actually causing more damage, clogging coolers, wearing away seals, etc. This is called sediment fallout. Sediment fallout is very abrasive.
We custom CNC machined a tee to tap into the heater line. We did this so there was no extra weight hanging off the heater hose than necessary. This machined piece weighs only ounces. In addition to the machined fitting a custom STAINLESS STEEL mounting bracket has been designed specifically for EASY bolt in on the 6.0L Ford PSD. All clamps are 100% stainless steel as well, even the clamp screws.
The DIESELSITE Coolant Filter Install Kit will remove the loose particles in your cooling system and give your water pumps, radiators, water necks and radiator hoses the protection they need from these abrasive materials. Wear is virtually eliminated by the removal of undesirable elements in your system.
